Intentional spiritual growth|Be intentional

2018 done and dusted!

It was a full year. Lots of lessons learned.  It was a year my faith in God was greatly tested.

Here we are in 2019. What are your plans for the year? I’m sure you already have plans for the year.

Any spiritual growth goals?

Wait, you never thought to include that in your plans for the year? Yes, it as much important as any other goal you may have included in your vision board for the year.

Just as every parent expects his/her child to grow, God expects us to grow too.

Towards the end of last year, God began to speak to me about intentional spiritual growth. Yes. Spiritual growth don’t just happen. We must be intentional about it. It doesn’t just happen because you have been a Christian for 5 years or 10 years or even for 15 years. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Heb 5:12

In order to grow spiritually, you have to first

Desire to grow spiritually

Decide to grow spiritually

and then make deliberate efforts to achieve that.

How do you go about it?

Spend time with God daily : Take out time to talk to God and also listen to Him on a daily basis. When we begin to spend time with God we begin to think like Him and act like Him. Jesus was intentional about spending time with God.

Spend MORE time with God : We need to spend MORE time with God than with anything else.

God shouldn’t fit into our ‘busy’ lives. Our ‘busy’ lives should fit into God.

Invest in your spirit daily / feed your spirit with good food : Recently I wrote on a topic : Eating healthy   In order to grow spiritually, we need to feed our spirit man with good food. Make deliberate efforts to listen to music, read books that will edify you!

Journaling. Recently I read a few benefits of journaling  and I have decided to start journaling. I recommend you do so too. You can do so daily or weekly. It records your growth in your Christian walk.

Find an accountability partner. Find someone or a group of friends with whom you can grow with.  Just as the Bible says  As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another (Prov27:17). You can pray and ask God for the right partner or group.

so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]; Col 1:10

I pray you begin to live intentionally

Blessings 💕

  1. I died spiritually last year, but when I saw one of Michael Todd’s videos on YouTube, I felt alive again. This year, I’ve resolved to dedicate much attention to my spiritual life and growth. I want to find that peace most Christians talk about.

  2. Hey Sis. Good read. You are right, we have to be intentional about our time with God. Apart from Him we can doing. All the goals, dreams, and desires we have pass through him first. So taking the time to grow in him is to our benefit. And, it’s not just about him giving us those things. It’s about loving and learning from the one who loved us first. He teaches us how to think, speak, and operate. All so that we can be who he designed us to be while living in his abundant love. Looking forward to the new year. Blessings.

    1. I totally agree with you sis. Growing in the knowledge of God is really to our own benefit. And yes, it is God who gives us the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.

Looking forward to the new year too. Thanks for reading and commenting.
      Remain blessed sis ❤

  3. Thanks for all your suggestions here…….some are very helpful! I plan to walk close with my WORD CHOICE this year: ADORE.
I also want to intentionally sit often at the Father’s feet and just read, read, read HIS word. I find the more you read it and fill yourself with that pure spiritual milk, the more you want it. HE draws you close for sure! May your New Year be blessed by the LORD greatly!

  5. Faith without works is dead.
God put on my heart for this year the word ‘prayer.’
The year before it was action.
Reading God’s word, as you recommended, and prayer are both action words.
The Bible is full of spiritual principles I can learn to apply to my life. And that’s what I look for when I study His good word spiritual principles that I can apply to my daily life.
    Thanks for the wisdom.
